So I was able to connect a XBOX controller without losing the built in GPIO Controller 1.cfg settings. I figured out why I lost my built in controller configuration. So in the GPIO Controller 1.cfg there is a keyboard layout so by reconfiguring the keyboard you automatically delete the original es_input.cfg and establish a new es_temporaryinput.cfg
